Thank goodness for those dedicated loyalist who believe in
restoring military vehicles to their as new condition. They are an
important part of preserving both our past and memories of others. These
vehicles were designed, built, maintained, cursed and used ( sometimes
abused ) by our fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, friends and on and on.
The Mule is another part of our military history and kudos to those who
painstakingly pay attention to detail so it may be remembered as such.
That being said, this site is not about restoring a Mule. Instead, it is about using, maintaining and enhancing one. Hopefully you will find the resources, references and ideas available here beneficial. I know there will be those who object and I am always open to feedback, but, a mule is meant to be used, and mine is...
I use my Mule plain and simple. It works around the yard almost weekly (it is
good to start and run regularly to keep seals supple and bearings lubricated),
It goes on camping and hunting trips, carries logs, rocks, tools and people,
climbs mountains, transverses ravines, fordes rivers and streams,
appears in the neighborhood 4th of July
parade, rides the children and grand children around the neighborhood for entertainment,
etc., etc., etc...
Any vehicle used this much needs to be reliable. Mechanically, the Mule is extremely
durable and will run even on the edge of self destruction, BUT...
regular maintenance is the key to keep it running smoothly and reliably.
The best way to ensure proper maintenance is performed is to use the Lube Order (LO)
document appropriate for your Mule model. The Lube Order documents are available
under the MANUALS link.
